Air Apparent began as a jazz violin led group in the 1970s in Washington D.C.   The original group featured Armen Boyajian on violin, Frank Kimbrough on piano, Ed Howard on bass and Steve Williams on drums, Air Apparent was the incubator for musicians such as Kimbrough, who went on to found the Jazz Composer's Collective, Ed Howard, who went on to study with Buster Williams and grace the groups of Roy Haynes, Richie Cole and the late Clifford Jordan, among others.  Drummer Steve Williams joined the late Shirley Horn shortly after leaving Air Apparent in 1982 and was with her (as was bassist Howard) until her passing in 2005.
